If you ask around today, many people will tell you that to get to Heaven all you need to do is be a good person. The majority of people seem to think that by not doing horrible things, like committing murder, stealing, and other crimes that you are a good person. The need for Jesus seems to be something that many don't see.
Being a good person cannot get you into Heaven. It is not enough to "be good." In fact, the Bible says no one is good, but God.
"And Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone." (Mark 10:18)
God is just and pure- it is His very nature, and He cannot be with sin. That means that there is no way that we can go before God by ourselves and have His forgiveness instead of His wrath. There is no way in which we can earn it, but there must be a form of payment for man's sin. That payment was death.
"For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 6:23)
"For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus." (1 Timothy 2:5)
"Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. "(John 14:6)
"For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive." (1 Corinthians 15:21–22)
Praise God that Jesus was the pure sacrifice that was needed to satisfy the wrath of God! His death on the cross was our payment in full; He defeated death by rising again! Now if we simply believe and accept His free gift of salvation we too will have eternal life in Heaven with our Lord. Don't worry you don't have to strive to be "good enough" because Jesus is good!
