The Lord’s Prayer

Jesus taught His disciples to pray using the Lord’s Prayer.  Let’s look at each part of this prayer.

Jesus taught His disciples this prayer, which has become known as the Lord’s Prayer.  Here is the prayer and some thoughts on each part.

Our Father -- God is our heavenly Father

Who art in heaven -- God dwells in heaven

Hallowed (holy) is Your Name -- God is holy and His name is to be worshipped.

Thy Kingdom come -- May God’s Kingdom come on this earth.

Thy will be done -- May God’s will be done.

On earth as it is in heaven -- God’s will is done in heaven; may it be done on earth.

Give us this day our daily bread -- We ask God to provide for our needs each day.

And forgive us our debts -- Please God forgive our sins.

As we forgive our debtors -- And let us forgive others who have sinned against us.

And lead us not into temptation -- We ask God to keep us from being tempted.

But deliver us from evil -- Please God, take us away from evil.

For Thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever -- God’s is the heavenly Kingdom forever and to Him be all power and honor and glory forever.
