What is the True Meaning of Easter?

Easter is often celebrated with Easter bunnies and candy.  While these may be fun, they are not the true meaning of Easter.

The true meaning of Easter, celebrated by Christians all over the world, is it celebrates Jesus rising from the dead!

Jesus Christ was born in Bethlehem in Israel over 2,000 years ago.  He was born miraculously of a virgin; His Father was God.  When He was 30 years old, He was baptized and began His public ministry.  For three and a half years He taught people about God; He healed the sick; He performed miracles, and He loved people with God’s love.

But Jesus came to earth for one very important mission and that was to die for our sins.  All of us have done and thought and said things that are wrong, and these are called sins.  The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

We deserve death and hell, but Jesus took our penalty in our place.  He died on the cross for our sins on the day we celebrate as Good Friday.  3 days later, on the day we celebrate as Easter Sunday, He rose miraculously from the dead!  He then appeared to hundreds of people over the next weeks and then rose into heaven where He sits at the right hand of God the Father.

So we celebrate Easter and Good Friday because it is our spiritual liberation day!  As many as received Christ, to them, He gave the power to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name.  If you have not already accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior, you can today by asking God to forgive your sins and asking Jesus Christ to come into your life as your Savior and Lord.
