Many people think there were three wise men who came to see Jesus and bring Him gifts. Is this correct?
It is common to talk about "the 3 wise men" who came to see Jesus after He was born.
But what does the Bible say? The Bible does indeed talk about wise men from the East who saw a great star that told of the birth of the One Who would be King of the Jews. These wise men came from afar and followed the star.
They were directed by King Herod to go to Bethlehem, which was where the King of the Jews was to be born. There, they found Jesus. They worshipped Him and gave Him gifts of gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.
How many wise men were there? The Bible doesn't tell us. Tradition says there were 3 wise men, perhaps because there were 3 gifts listed. So perhaps there were 3 wise men, but we don't know the exact number according to the Bible.
What is important is that we, too, like the wise men of old, can come to Jesus Christ as King and Lord and Savior and bring gifts of love and worship Him! So let us do this today in our hearts and lives.
