When we accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior and the Holy Spirit came to live within us, a change happened inside of us. Instead of living for ourselves, we strive to live for Him. How does this affect our marriage relationship?
When you are a Christian, your marriage can be seen as a triangle with God at the top, you at one corner and your spouse at the parallel corner from you. God is the one Who holds you together and your relationship with Him must come first. Our relationship with our spouse should be next and placed above all of our other earthly relationships, even our children. We must try to love our husband/wife the way that Christ loves us.
Here are 7 ways to love your spouse like Christ loves us:
1. Pray for them and with them.
2. Make your relationship a priority.
3. Put the other person first.
4. Practice being quick to listen, but slow to speak.
5. Respect them.
6. Don't keep an account of all their mistakes.
7. Always communicate.
"Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things." 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
