What Four Songs Are Recorded In The Bible Around Jesus' Birth?

In the Bible, we often see people giving praise to God for the wonderful things He has done and the things that He is going to. Do you know that many of these times of praise are actually songs? There are four of these songs surrounding the birth of Jesus, do you know them and who sang them?

1. Mary's Song- also known as the Magnificat
This was Mary's Spirit-filled reply to Elisabeth when she visited her during the early months of her pregnancy with the Messiah. You can read Mary's song here in Luke 1:46-55

2. Zechariah's Song, also known as the Benedictus
Zechariah was John the Baptist's father, and his song occurred after he obeyed God and named his newborn son, John. You can read Zechariah's song here in Luke 1:67-79

3. The Angels' Song- Gloria
This is probably the most common song that people remember from the Bible. It happened on the night of Jesus' birth and was the announcement to the shepherds in a nearby field. You can read the Angels' Song here in Luke 2:9-15

4. Simeon's Song, known as the Nunc Dimittis
Simeon was an elderly man who had been told by the Spirit that he would not die until he had seen the Messiah. His song happens when he meets the baby Jesus at the temple on the day of His dedication. You can read Simeon's Song here in Luke 2:25-35

We can learn something from each one of these four songs about God, the Savior, and how the world will be changed because of this little baby's coming into the world. I hope that you will take the time to read the above verses and let God's truth soak into your heart this Christmas season!
