Jesus Christ- most of us have heard that name before. For centuries people have called him a wise teacher, a great prophet, or even claimed he was a fraud. But how many people actually know who the real Jesus Christ was and still is today?
In the Bible, many people including Jesus, make what may seem to the world like some pretty outrageous claims about who He is.
1. Jesus is the ONE and ONLY son of the one true God.
Some religions will tell you that Jesus was just another prophet. It is obvious from scriptures that He was much more than that!
In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him.
I John 4:9
Then a voice came from heaven, “You are My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” Mark 1:11
Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
John 3:18
2. Jesus is Fully God.
While many people make the argument that Jesus never claimed to be God, there are many verses in the Bible that prove otherwise.
I and my Father are one
John 10:30
but if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father.”
John 10:38
And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone.
Luke 18:19
3. Jesus Is Fully Man
Jesus had to be flesh and blood to pay for our sins. He had physical needs such as eating and felt pain, both physical and emotional, just like we do.
Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil,
Hebrews 2:14
See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me, and see. For a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.
Luke 24:39
4. Jesus is the Savior of the World
Jesus, the only perfect and holy man, died on the cross and then defeated death and rose again in glorious victory 3 days later. He did this to pay for all of our sins and to bring us back into communion with God. Someday He is coming back, and all those who believe and accept Him as Christ will be with Him for eternity!
but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8
If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living.
Romans 14:8-9
While these claims may seem outrageous to some, the truth is- Jesus IS all of the above and more! All evidence clearly points to the fact that Jesus is like no other person that has ever or will ever walk on this earth. For those of us who have accepted his free gift of salvation, he is not only our Lord and Savior but also our example of how to live in this world and the best friend we could ever ask for!
