How to Encourage Like Barnabas

Barnabas was a leader in the early church known for his spirit of encouragement.

Here are 5 things you can cultivate in your life to have a lasting legacy like this powerful New Testament saint.

Point to Truth

Acts 13 tells about Paul and Barnabas teaching in Pisidian Antioch. in verse 47 they announce their mission "'I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.’" Verse 48 records When the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and honored the word of the Lord; and all who were appointed for eternal life believed. God's truth sets people free, and encouragers to offer hope when it's needed most.

Cultivate discernment

Discernment is born in the prayer closet.

Cultivate goodness

Luke calls Barnabas "a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith" in Acts 11:24. Luke doesn't say this about anyone else in the Gospel of Luke or the Book of Acts.

Cultivate fullness of the Holy Spirit

Be filled, and constantly refilled by the Holy Spirit. It's something to ask God for.

Cultivate faith

2 Cor 10:5

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
