Two of Jesus' disciples asked if they could sit closest to Him in His coming glory. It seems that they wanted a guaranteed position of power and prestige from Jesus.
What Jesus says really set them (and us) straight...
"Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant. 44 And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all. 45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” Mark 10:43-45
So, how can we become great in God's eyes?
Serve. Just as Jesus did, put others first by caring for their needs and their desires. In God's kingdom, humility is key. There are billions of God's children on this earth for us to serve--- and a good place to start is by serving your own family.
Here's my prayer for you:
Dear Father, Help us to see this world as You see it--- each child, dearly beloved, and in need of our help and care. Help us to find ways to serve others in our own families, churches and neighborhoods. Gently lead us into humility. In Jesus' Name, AMEN!
