When we say there is power in Jesus' name, what do we mean? The name of Jesus was actually a very common name in 1st century Israel. It is not the word itself that has power, but the person to who the name belongs. Jesus Christ's name has power because He is God in the flesh, our one, and only Savior who died for our sins and rose again three days later. The power that comes from calling on the name of Jesus comes because we have faith and believe that He is Lord.
"And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12
"Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." Philippians 2:9-11
