Is Doing The Right Thing Is Always The Best Thing?

What stops you from doing the right thing? Are you scared that it will change other people's opinion of you or what you may lose by doing so? God wants us to do what is right no matter the consequences. He is enough for us and more than makes up for what we lose.

"For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord." Ephesians 5:8-10

We shine Jesus' light to the world by doing what is right just because it is right without too much thought as to what we could gain or lose. This can be hard to do! In the world that we live in everyone thinks that they can decide for themselves what is wrong and what is right. Most people seem to think that there is no moral standard. As followers of Christ, we must come to a different conclusion. God sets the moral standard and shows us what it is through His Word, the Bible.

"He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?" Micah 6:8

“So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets." Matthew 7:12

"So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin." James 4:17

"I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect." Romans 12:2

When you stand up for what is right in God's eyes and take the path less traveled you may be made fun of, lose friends, your job, or in some situations much more, but do it anyway. Doing the right thing isn't always the easy thing to do- but it is always the right thing to do. The Bible says- that if God is on our side-what do we have to fear? As followers of Christ, we should be more concerned with what God thinks than what our fellow humans think because in the end no matter what choice we make right is still right, and wrong is still wrong!
