The Bible's Heroes of Faith

In our time, heroes are often portrayed with giant muscles and perfect smiles. It sends the message: It's what's outside that matters. In God's eyes, there is a different kind of hero: a faith hero.

Faith heroes not only believe, but act on God's promises before there's any proof that they're true. They believe in what they cannot see.

Hebrews, Chapter 11, recounts the stories of many of the Bible's faith heroes. These are the sort of people we should emulate. May your faith be built up right now by remembering these heroes!

1. Abel offered a sacrifice in faith.

By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts; and through it he being dead still speaks. Hebrews 11:4

2. Noah built an Ark to save humanity by faith.

By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith. Hebrews 11:7

3. Sarah bore a child in faith - who would be one of Jesus Christ's ancestors.

By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised. Hebrews 11:11-12

4. Abraham offered up his son in faith.

By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises offered up his only begottenson, 18 of whom it was said, “In Isaac your seed shall be called,”19 concluding that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead, from which he also received him in a figurative sense. Hebrews 11:17-19

5. Moses led God's people out of Egypt in faith.

By faith Moses, when he became of age, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, 25choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin, 26 esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt; for he looked to the reward. Hebrews 11:24

Lord, Lead me to live by faith in your promises today!

In Jesus' Name, Amen
