What is the most mentioned animal in the Bible? Of course, how many times an animal is mentioned will depend on which translation you are reading. For today, I am going to use the ESV. Believe it or not, it is not the mighty lion or majestic eagle, it is the lowly sheep. No matter your translation they all have the same answer. In the Bible, sheep are mentioned over 500 times!
Let's look at a few of these verses.
"For he is our God,
and we are the people of his pasture,
and the sheep of his hand.
Today, if you hear his voice," Psalm 95:7
"Know that the LORD, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture." Psalm 100:3
"When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd." Matthew 9:6
"I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep." John 10:11
Why do you think sheep are mentioned so many times? Could it be because we are God's sheep and He is our Shepherd? Are you following the Good Shepherd?
