Jesus talked about being "born again." What did He mean by that?
In the third chapter of the Book of John in the New Testament, Jesus was approached by a religious leader named Nicodemus. Jesus said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, except one be born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God."
Jesus went on to explain that He was not talking about a physical birth -- He was talking about a spiritual birth. We cannot be born physically a second time, but we can be born anew -- as a new person -- spiritually.
We cannot enter the kingdom of God just by being good; or by following rules; or by thinking good thoughts. All these can be good, but what is important is a new creation. When we ask Jesus Christ to come into our heart and life as our Savior and Lord, and we ask forgiveness for our sins, we become a new creation spiritually. The old life is gone; the new life has begun!
