What is at the Heart of God's Character?

God is amazingly complex, for He is God! What one attribute seems to be at the heart of His character?

For us as humans to decide we can adequately describe God is crazy. We are tiny and finite; God is magnificent and all-powerful and infinite.

Yet God has revealed much about Himself to us through the Bible, through His Son Jesus Christ, through the Holy Spirit, and through creation.

In the Bible, it talks about many things that God has done. But there is one characteristic of God that is so strong that the Bible identifies God with it. That characteristic?

"God is love."

Love is such a strong part of who God is that it is described as His own motivation for sending Jesus. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him would not perish but would have eternal life."

When God describes the greatest commandments for us, who are made in the image of God, they are to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength and love our neighbors as ourselves.

When God lists the fruits of the Spirit, which are elements coming from the character of God, the first fruit that is listed is "love."

So let us rejoice in God's love, for our God is a God of love! And let us seek to love Him and to love others, all with the love that only God makes possible. Thank you, God, for your love!!!
