We Have A God-Given Purpose And It May Not Be What You Think!

Have you ever wondered why God put you on this planet? Why did He create man at all? It's a mistake to think that God needed humans or was lonely and just wanted some company. God would not be God if He weren't self-sufficient.

"The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man, nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything." Acts 17:24-25

We were created for God's glory.
God did not create us to live life on earth for ourselves, to do whatever we want without any thought to Him. John Piper puts it this way- "The whole duty of the Christian can be summed up in this: feel, think, and act in a way that will make God look as great as he really is. Be a telescope for the world of the infinite starry wealth of the glory of God." He created us to be like a telescope that magnifies His greatness and glory!

"Everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made." Isaiah 43:7

"In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory."
Ephesians 1:11-12

How do we fulfill His purpose?
We fulfill our God-given purpose when we make God our number one in all things and let Him guide us on our journey. When the world looks at us, they should see God shining through every aspect of our lives. As humans, we can only begin to grasp how great our God is, but when we live our lives for Him we proclaim that greatness to the world. Everything we do should be to God's glory!

"So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." 1 Corinthians 10:31

"Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body."
1 Corinthians 6:19-20

"Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ." Colossians 3:23-24

To conclude, while God does have individual plans for all of us the purpose of those plans is always to glorify Him. When we align our hearts and lives with God's will, we are glorifying God and will begin to experience the abundant life that He promises us!
