What Kind of Hope Does Jesus' Birth Offer the World?

At Christmastime, we celebrate the birth of Jesus and all of the bright hope He gives us. The Bible tells us about the kind of hope Jesus offers us - hundreds of years before He was even born! Jesus proclaims good news to the poor, gives freedom to all, and He comforts all who mourn. He turns all of our sorrow into rejoicing!

How does Jesus give us that kind of joy and freedom? He is God himself among us. He came into the world to set us free from our sins and give us an unbroken, everlasting relationship with God our Father. And that is what we were created for! As you read this scripture below, I pray that You'd feel God close to you, being Your comfort and joy!

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,
2 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor
and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn,
3     and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
    instead of ashes,
the oil of joy
    instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.

Isaiah 61:1-3
