We all want to be great. Who did Jesus say would be the greatest?
One time the followers of Jesus came to Him and asked, "Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?" (If that was us asking, maybe each of us would be hoping Jesus would say "You are the greatest.")
Instead, Jesus called a child to Himself and set the child before them. He said to them,
"Truly I say to you, unless you are converted and become like children, you shall not enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever then humbles himself as this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven."
What an unexpected response! We think the greatest people would be the strongest, or the smartest, or the richest, or the most powerful.
Yet Jesus says almost the opposite. Jesus asks us to be born again; to become like children, for we are new born babes in His kingdom; and to humble ourselves like little children. Who is the opposite of that? It is people who are proud and who don't see a need to be born again.
So do you want to be great in God's kingdom? Become born again; start off as a new born baby in Christ; and humble yourself under the mighty hand of God.
