We Can Learn A Lot About Who God Is From The Bible, Who Do You Say He Is?

Who is God? While we cannot possibly know all about God or understand all of His ways, the Bible does say a lot about His nature and personality. Let's take a look!

  • God is Spirit. He is not a human but an uncreated being that created us and loves us.
    "God is spirit. His worshipers must worship him in spirit and in truth." John 4:24
  • God is the source of all life. Nothing has come to be without Him.
    "All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made." John 1:3
    "You are the one and only Lord. You made the heavens. You made even the highest heavens. You created all of the stars in the sky. You created the earth and everything that is on it. And you made the oceans and everything that is in them. You give life to everything. Every living being in heaven worships you." Isaiah 9:6
  • God is the only uncreated thing that has ever existed. He has no beginning and no end; He is eternal.
    "Before you created the world and the mountains were made, from the beginning to the end you are God." Psalm 90:2
    "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” Revelation 22:13
  • God is all-powerful.
    "He determines the number of the stars;
    he gives to all of them their names.
    Great is our Lord, and abundant in power;
    his understanding is beyond measure." Psalm 147:4-5
    "But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26
  • God is all-knowing- Nothing has happened, happens or will ever happen that He didn't already know about.
    O Lord, you have searched me and known me!
    2 You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
    you discern my thoughts from afar.
    3 You search out my path and my lying down
    and are acquainted with all my ways.
    4 Even before a word is on my tongue,
    behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.
    5 You hem me in, behind and before,
    and lay your hand upon me.
    6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
    it is high; I cannot attain it. Psalm 139:1-6
    "For whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything." 1 John 3:20
  • God is love and the source of all goodness.
    "Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love." 1 John 4:8
    "So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him." 1 John 4:16
    "Oh, how abundant is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you and worked for those who take refuge in you, in the sight of the children of mankind!" Psalm 31:19
  • God is holy and just.
    "but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct," 1 Peter 1:15
    “The Rock, his work is perfect, for all his ways are justice. A God of faithfulness and without iniquity, just and upright is he." Deuteronomy 32:4
  • God is three in one-The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit.
    "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[a] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit," Matthew 28:19
    "Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of godliness: He was manifested in the flesh, vindicated by the Spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory." 1 Timothy 3:16
    "according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in the sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and for sprinkling with his blood: May grace and peace be multiplied to you." 1 Peter 1:2
  • God is our Savior. He came to earth as Jesus Christ, lived a sinless life and died on the cross to save us.
    "But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us". Romans 5:8
    “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him."
    John 3:16-17
