You Were Made to Worship

The purpose of life is to glorify and enjoy God forever.

That's a paraphrase of the first part of the Westminster Shorter Catechism, which is well supported by the Psalms and rest of the Bible. We're going to look at some verses that back up the chorus of the song "Since Your Love" by the band United Pursuit, and then we'll have a chance to sing them back to God in worship!

"I was made by You

I was made for You

I am unfulfilled

without full communion"

Colossians 1 says this about Jesus in verse 16 "For by Him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through Him and for Him." Everything was made by Jesus, and everything was made for Him. You exist because of God and you exist to bring Him glory through relationship with Him. If you feel purposeless or like something is missing, your relationship with God is where you need to look!

Paul wrote in Philippians 3:8-9 “Indeed, I count every thing as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ.” Is there anything in your life more important to you than your relationship with Jesus? Now is a good time to confess your sin to God and to also acknowledge anything that is keeping Him from being first in your life, from being Lord over all.

Lord, we say that we were made by you and for you. We want to surrender our lives and we want you to have the best of our love and affection. We will enjoy you and lift up your name forever. And we want to do that now. In Jesus' name, Amen!
