When You Feel Like God Is Distant

If you are feeling suddenly distant from God, you might want to take a look at your life and see what has changed. Often, when we first become a Christ-follower, we have a contagious faith that is on fire. We thirst for more of God and can't get enough of His words. We pray and spend time with Him and soak in His goodness!

Like a lot of relationships, our passion can dwindle. We become busy in our lives and find more and more that we aren't making time to read or study our Bible, that we are only praying as a routine, and often forget that God is even there. Who has moved away in the relationship though? It is us! It is not God. God is still there; He is always there waiting for us!

“I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5

If you feel that God is distant from you, I encourage you to pray, and before you read your Bible ask the Holy Spirit to guide you and open your eyes and heart to what God is saying to you. Ask the Lord to give you a renewed thirst for His Words and a desire to know Him more and have faith that He will. I find the more time I spend in the Bible and with the Lord in prayer, the more I want that in my life, and when I lose focus, I feel farther away from the one my soul longs for. I pray that if you are ever feeling this way that you will not give up on God because He has not given up on you!
