God is Closer Than you Think

SOMETIMES LIFE IS A STRUGGLE.

Your relationship breaks apart. You get bad news from the doctor. They had to cut your position at work. There are a lot of ways to become brokenhearted. Many of them are completely out of your control.

It’s during those times - when you are weak and weary and brokenhearted - that you need to come to me. When you seek me, I will answer. When you call out to me, I will hear you. I am a refuge for the weak, and shelter in the storms. So when life begins to overwhelm you, come to me.

I am not a God who is in a far off, distant galaxy.

I am here, close to you every single moment of every single day.

When you just feel you can’t get through the day… come to me. When you are given more than you can handle… come to me. When the news is bad… come to me. When you are brokenhearted and crushed in spirit, I will be close to you. When you cry out, I will listen. It doesn’t even have to be with words. Just call my name. Just say Lord, and I will be there to comfort you.

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18 (NIV)

NEXT STEPS:

  • Read Psalms 34:15 - “The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are attentive to their cry;” and Psalm 34:17-18 “The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them;he delivers them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” What comfort do you get from these verses?
  • Our modern culture often define success in life as a life that is free from adversary. This definition fosters greed, and corruption. However it can be difficult to trust in God when you see so much evil and heart break in the world. Read this Q&A on “Why there is suffering in the world” for some answers.
