John Proclaims Jesus Is the Messiah

Before Jesus had even chosen His disciples, John the Baptist knew that Jesus was the One who would take away the sins of the world...

In John 1, John the Baptist is baptizing in the wilderness of Israel. As Jesus approaches, John proclaims, "Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!"

"And John bore witness, saying, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He remained upon Him. 33 I did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ 34 And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.” John 1:32-34

This early on in Jesus' ministry, God had already revealed to John that Jesus would do two very important things:

1. Jesus would take away the sin of the world.

2. Jesus would baptize with the Holy Spirit.

My prayer for you: Dear Lord, Show us Your truth as You revealed it to John the Baptist. Teach us who You are and how we can have relationship with You. I pray that we would know Your redeeming grace that frees us from our sin, and that we would be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit to live lives that glorify You! In Jesus' Name, Amen
