Have you ever noticed that when a little child experiences something new and unexpected for the first time, they often watch their parent's faces and see how they respond before they decide how they will react? Whether the parent reacts dramatically or calmly, the child will see that and do the same. Do you know why this is? It's because they trust their parents to lead them and keep them safe.
People often say they trust in the Lord with all their heart and feel like they are until something happens that requires that trust is shown. When God asked for Abraham's son as a sacrifice, he did not wait on God to change His mind. We don't read any of his feelings in the Bible, but we can imagine how that would feel. What we do know is that Abraham obeyed. He immediately gathered what he needed and started on the long three-day journey with his precious son Isaac. When it came time for the sacrifice, Isaac wondered what was going on, but trusted his father, just as Abraham trusted his Heavenly Father. Abraham went as far as setting up the altar and even raised his knife to his son, he was willing to give God his son, and that is when God stopped him. Abraham looked at who God was and trusted in the promise of the Lord, not his circumstances. He knew God was going to do as He said!
"For the promise to Abraham and his offspring that he would be heir of the world did not come through the law but through the righteousness of faith." Romans 4:13
What if God is asking you to give up something dear to your heart? Is there something in your life that you are withholding from God? He wants us to let go of the things most precious to us and trust in Him no matter our circumstances!
