What Was Church Like 2,000 Years Ago?

Has church changed much in 2,000 years? The Book of Acts gives us a great picture from God of what a thriving church looks like...

1. People accepted Christ and were baptized.

Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them. Acts 2:41

2. The church studied God's word together.

And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship... Acts 2:42

3. The church broke bread together.

And they continued steadfastly... in the breaking of bread... Acts 2:42

4. The church prayed together.

And they continued steadfastly... in prayers. Acts 2:42

5. Wonders and Signs were done among them.

Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles.  Acts 2:43

6. The church was generous - sharing what they had with each other.

Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, 45and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need.  Acts 2:44-45

7. The church was in unity.

So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart... Acts 2:46

8. The church praised God.

...praising God and having favor with all the people.  Acts 2:47

9. The church had favor with all the people.

...praising God and having favor with all the people.  Acts 2:47

10. New believers were added to the church daily.

And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.  Acts 2:47

Lord, We pray You'd be at the center of our churches - all around the world - helping us to share Your story and guide others into life in You! In Jesus' Name, Amen
